Sarah Huckabee Sanders: Arkansas' First Female Governor

From White House to Governor's Mansion

Sarah Elizabeth Huckabee Sanders, born August 13, 1982, made history as the first female governor of Arkansas when she took office on January 10, 2023. A staunch conservative, Sanders is also the youngest governor currently serving in the United States.

Prior to her gubernatorial bid, Sanders held the prominent position of White House press secretary under President Donald Trump from July 2017 to June 2019. Known for her strong defense of the Trump administration, Sanders' tenure as press secretary was marked by controversy and contentious press conferences.

Conservative Firebrand

As Arkansas governor, Sanders has continued to champion conservative values. She has taken aim at what she sees as liberal overreach, including efforts to promote gender equality and LGBTQ rights. Her policies have been met with both praise and criticism, particularly her decision to introduce legislation restricting transgender youth from participating in school sports consistent with their gender identity.
